A Lot to Love | Dwell

Dwell featured the house architect Christian Arnold and his wife Julie built for their own family on a sloping, triangular lot a few miles from downtown Kansas City. The magazine described it as an open, tree-house-like structure on stilts, hovering at the quirky edge of an otherwise conventional neighborhood, with a bamboo-enclosed deck over the foundation.

Faust Construction built it. A triangular lot that falls away constrains everything that follows: where equipment can stand, where the foundation can bear, and how much of the structure has to be resolved before anything is enclosed. Houses on stilts do not forgive a decision deferred.
