Doug and Mandy Stockman nearly doubled the size of their brick house on Kansas City's upper west side without letting it outgrow the block it sits on. That restraint is the whole story of the project.

Faust Construction was general contractor. The difficult part was the rear two-story addition on a tight urban lot, where there is no staging room and every delivery has to be sequenced against the neighbors. The original brick and masonry were preserved and the new work set against them, with a metal roof, multi-color siding and a concrete wall shower carrying the contemporary side.
