Jane and Matt Buss wanted a pool behind a 1957 Donald Drummond mid-century house in Overland Park. The backyard did not obviously have room for one.

The scheme that worked fits a twenty by forty foot saltwater pool with a turbine swim system, a Corten steel firepit, cedar fencing and a cabana with enclosed storage. Getting there meant redesigning the landscape around the pool rather than dropping a pool into the existing landscape. On a lot this tight the sequence matters, because grade, drainage and access all have to be solved before the shell goes in and there is no room to correct afterward.
